Steve Jobs: Thoughts on Music

7 02 2007

tomusicThis is a great read for anyone who has ever purchased an iPod or music from any online music store. Steve Jobs tells it like it is, that DRM isn’t working and the big music companies are still selling over 90% of their music DRM free.

He goes on to say that, “If the big four music companies would license Apple their music without the requirement that it be protected with a DRM, we would switch to selling only DRM-free music on our iTunes store.”

I think this would be a great thing. He also statest that where 2 billion songs were sold last year online with DRM, over 20 billion were sold without.

I think this is a very bold move to put right on the front page of Apple.com, but I also think that he’s right. DRM sucks, and the best part is that Apple (the number 1 seller of online music and portable music players) thinks so.

Have a great weekend

26 01 2007

I’m going to be in the Orlando area all weekend long. There is a memorial service for my great grandmother tomorrow, and I am going to try to see a friend who lives out that way afterwards.

Sunday, I’m going to Epcot over at Disney World, I’ve never been and am quite excited. Perhaps, I might be a little too excited as per this Google Notebook of my entire itentary of the day. I’ve decided to take my Zune with me instead of my iPod. Maybe I can find a person or two to squirt a few songs to. If not, I’ve loaded it up with a bunch of songs from the Zune Marketplace.

I will miss out on the Gasparilla parade and festivities in Tampa this weekend, but I’ve been the past 2 years in a row now.

Bill Gates on the Zune

8 01 2007

“Zune is very analogous to Xbox One,” Bill Gates said. “That is, a very innovative product with some identifiable features that move the category forward: The larger screen, the WiFi capabilities, sending music around.”

“Even more than Xbox, we can upgrade a lot of things we are going to do in the future. For example, we could let you buy music right there on the device. And there are a ton of more things we can do because it is software driven and has a fair bit of capacity.” Brian Crecente

Zune Marketplace Expired

4 01 2007

I forgot to renew my Zune Marketplace membership when it expired over the holiday’s. I can’t access any of my Zune songs I downloaded on my laptop, but my Zune is going strong. I haven’t sync’d the Zune since it expired in an attempt to see how long it can go, and what sort of message I get.
How long does it take till the Zune stops playing the Marketplace music? What if it never stops playing it? Hmmm…

ZuneMyTube

3 01 2007

zuneitI’ve been waiting for this product to come out for a while now, and it’s finally here. Simply put, it adds YouTube, Google Video, or Soapbox videos onto your Zune.

With the click of 1 button (in IE only right now), the video is converted to a wmv and placed in your My Videos folder for sync the next time you connect your Zune.

One of the best parts, it’s free. There are TONS of converters out there to go from these online video services, but almost all of them charge around $30. This is a simple one click button in your IE toolbar.

Now where is the Firefox version? In the meantime, download the ZuneMyTube for IE here.

What did you get?

26 12 2006

Clubhouse GamesAnything exciting for Christmas? I got only 1 tech item, a new game I’ve been wanting for my DS Lite, and my dad, and brother played it for quite some time last night.

Other then that I got a bunch of bowling items, including a new ball and shoes. I received tickets to Spamalot when it opens here in Tampa with my brothers as well. I did order an Invisible Shield for my Zune to protect the screen from scratches, and am going to re-new the Zune Marketplace account.

I know a few people got Blackberry Pearls for Christmas, make sure to read my post about using it as a bluetooth modem.

3for2Also, don’t forget to check out iTunes has a 3 for 2 special on select music videos right now, a perfect way to help fill up that new iPod you might of gotten. Some of the sets are even cheaper then regular, I just got 6 music videos for $5.98.
