Wiicall of all Wii straps

Nick Starr | December 15, 2006

Looks like Nintendo has decided that all of the straps initially included with the new Wii system are defective, based on people smashing their remotes into their tv’s after the cord breaks.

You can sign up to have a new strap sent out to you, and it looks like you won’t have to go through the hassle of returning your old one.

Wii: Right on Target

Nick Starr | December 14, 2006

I’ve been tipped off by a little birdy*, that Target is hoarding Nintendo Wii’s for an advertisement that is slated to come out Sunday. Every store in the country is “supposed” to have a limited quantity on hand.

I’m traveling this weekend, but might see what I can do about getting to a Target in Columbus, Ohio Sunday early in the AM.

*This post is speculation and rumor, there is no guarantee that Target will have the Wii. This is simply information I’ve acquired and am passing it along.

Wii’s strap gets stronger

Nick Starr | December 8, 2006

Looks like Nintendo has learned a bit after reports of Wii Remotes crashing into TV sets. They’ve increased the thickness of the remotes in the latest shipment of Wii’s that was recently released in Australia.

I think that I might wait an extra week or 3 till these new Wii Remotes hit the US before making my purchase of my Wii.

Speaking of buying a Wii, today’s Dawn and Drew TV episode showed their plight to Wal-Mart at the crack of dawn in an attempt to purchase a Wii. Were they able to get there in time when some people had been camping out since the previous day? Watch the episode here.

Next Gen Sales

Nick Starr | November 30, 2006

Even though both the Wii and PS3 are nearly impossible to find this holiday shopping season, Nintendo is certainly making the Wii more available (and affordable) then the PS3.

wii600k

The Wii has sold over 600,000 units in the first 8 days it was out in the United States. That’s 75,000 a day or 3125 an hour or 52 a minute!!!!! (On an average scale of course). Sony has only sold around 125,000 and 175,000 even though it launched 2 days before the Wii.

Microsoft was only able to sell 400,000 within it’s first 8 days of being on the market. At it’s current selling rate (if the rate proved to be sustainable) , the Wii is set to overtake the 6+ Million Xbox 360’s sold within the next few months.

The The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has become the most successful Wii game so far, selling about 454,000 units. Nintendo also has more units per launch then the other two consoles, thus leading to it’s larger selling figures.

Either way, I know I’m going to be purchasing the Wii, and with Apple’s iTV coming out soon, the Media Center Extender feature of the Xbox 360 is looking less tempting.

New Super Mario Paper

Nick Starr | June 19, 2006

I’m not sure what to think of this game, it seems a bit…strange. Looks to be for the Wii, but could come out on the GameCube. Plenty of videos on YouTube.

My quest for a DS Lite

Nick Starr | June 1, 2006

First off let me say that I do in-fact have a Nintendo DS Lite and will have pictures uploaded as soon as I can.

All pieces removed 2, originally uploaded by JPinnix.

It started yesterday when I read that there were retails stores selling them 11 days early. I ran over to my nearest Target and Walmart with no luck.

I had school and work the rest of the day so I gave up my efforts.

Today everyone is reporting that Wal-Mart and Target have fixed the item in the system so it won’t scan. Well I try to  go to Target anyway. An employee in the electronics section opens a drawer full of them, but says he can’t sell them to the 11th. I even try to bribe him and he doesn’t go for it.

My receipt from Sears tucked underneath the box…, originally uploaded by marusin.

I saw on Josh’s Unboxing site that someone had gotten one from Sears, so I head to a Sears Essentials store. I called up first and they had 3. When trying to ring it up, there was some RTV error. I tried to get her to ring up an old box and sell me the lite…she wasn’t having that.

Then I went and checked the online page for Sears. They showed you could order it online and they had them in stock….hrm. Now my wallet was recently stolen so I don’t have any debit cards yet…so how do I order online?

Sears allows gift cards to be used to place an order. Back to Sears I go and buy a $140 gift card. I head out to my car and get on the Sprint Samsung A-920 as a bluetooth modem for my MacBook. I place my order from the parking lot.

I drove around back for the order pickup, and the guy has a DS in hand. He then asks if my name is Daren. Apparently someone else was wise to this trick. I tell him no, it’s Nick and he finds my order and hands me the DS.

Now his Palm Pilot won’t accept my signature, and he even tries…not working. CRAP. He tells me to stay right there and goes into the warehouse. Was he going to get some message that said it couldn’t be sold? Should I make a dash for my car with my item?

Fortunately he got it to work and I walked out with my new Nintendo DS Lite. It is a perfect compliment to my white MacBook. The screen is brighter it is such a beautiful piece of hardware. I can’t wait to play Mario Kart online tonight!

So I got my DS Lite, 10 days before it launches….I couldn’t be happier.

UPDATE: Check out my Flickr set of my new DS. There are a lot of good pics comparing the old DS “phat” to the DS Lite
