I am getting ready to fly out to the New Media Expo (formerly the Podcast expo, and about 3 other names which everyone will be saying. You will be seeing a lot of tweets about different meetups, dinners, lunches, events, and parties if you follow me on Twitter over the next few days, as well as some cool info about people I meet out there.
This is my 4th year, and the conferences 4th as well. It sort of became a bit too corporate last year, but I think Vegas will bring the life back into the attendees.
I’ll be headed to the GLBT Podcaster & Listener Meet & Greet hosted by Fausto & Marc of Feast of Fools Thursday at 7pm at the SpaceQuest Bar, Hilton Hotel, NLOL Comedy show Thursday night at 10:30pm, Revision3 Meetup Friday at the Double Down Saloon from 6-8PM, and have friends flying in from Toronto which I met recently just for vacation. I am sure that there will be other great events I’ll be at, so if you want to say hi and are in the area, watch my Twitter stream.
Also, if you want to see what is going on (wether you are at the expo or not) watch/bookmark this link for all tweets related to the New Media Expo. I try to filter out all the noise and get all the tags people will be using in that customized Twitter Search, but if there are extra tags I should add let me know.
I also did an interview a few weeks ago, which is live today with Victor Cajiao of the Typical Mac User Podcast about social media & new media. We discussed a variety of services and how you can use them to gain and keep an audience as well as other trips and tricks of the this new media world we live in. Make sure to listen to the show here, subscribe to future shows in iTunes, and follow Victor on Twitter.
Well I’m off…my brand new Moo business cards arrived 1 hour before I was leaving the office so I’m ready to have fun and party it up in Vegas baby! Cya there!

I don’t know if there is an AA for text messagers, but if there were I would be a member. I’ve gone so far as to cancel my voice service on my phone, and have unlimited 3G data and unlimited SMS messages (don’t ask how) for $50/month.
If you want to contact me there are many ways to do so. Texting is the preferred method, but if you don’t have my number you can send me a direct message via Twitter and I get it as a text message. Heck you can even do Twitter via SMS by sending your updates, direct messages, and replies to 40404 (in the US only).
On top of texts, I am on email virtually all day long, and my email address hasn’t changed in years: me at NickStarr dot com.
I’m on IM services as well:
AIM: NickStarr
GoogleTalk: NickStarr (at) Gmail (dot) com
Yahoo: NickStarr_cc
MSN: me at NickStarr dot com
Skype: NickStarr
Of course there is Facebook as well, and with their new IM service the service has become something I keep open all the time as well. Add me as a friend on facebook and send me a message.
So send me a message to say hi or just want to talk, can’t promise I am free ALL the time, but I’m around quite a bit.

Okay, as you all very well know I am a fan of Twitter, the 140 character micro-blogging platform. I also am a fan of the iPhone. Well until now I have been using Twitter via SMS and getting about 1,000 people’s updates via text message….that is until today.
A new iPhone app (for jailbroken iPhones) was launched today called Twinkle. This program reminds me of look and feel of my favorite Twitter program, Twitterific. It auto-updates every few minutes (keeping in accordance with the Twitter API), shows your @’s and Directs with a nice highlight and icon…but here’s the sweet part. It is location aware, so it can help you find people who are twittering anywhere from 1-252,000 miles from you. This uses the iPhones “Locate Me” feature built into Google Maps.
I will be using this great new program, and you should too, over the next few days to see how well I like it, but as of now I think it is the first thing which could totally replace Twitter SMS for me (which last month I had over 100,000 sms’s). Check some of the screenshots after the jump.

My NY Times article about Twitter and the entire suicide issue is finally published. It is online, and looks to be in print tomorrow, November 4th. Below is the article, but it can also be found on the NY Times site here. There are a few inaccuracies. The police didn’t find me in my car the next morning, and I’ve had no contact with any law enforcement about this incident (others did by calling them and reporting the incident though). On the site, it doesn’t look like they used any of the photos we took the day of my second break-in.
Currently, I am still without a computer as well, but I hope to have enough money by the middle of the month to get one. The donation link is still available as well.
Before I publish the article, I want to take this time to give an update on what has been going on. My job in the north bay found out about my recent break-ins. My boss donated towards my fund, and other various donations have been coming in.
I decided that the best way to start over, since I was down to 2 outfits and the clothes on my back, was to move outside of the city and find a place to live. I found a beautiful house that was renting out rooms. Check out my Flickr page for some pics.
The rent is VERY reasonable, but coming up with the first/last/deposit/etc was a HUGE drain on my finances. In the end I believe it is worth it, and putting off my goal of buying a new computer has suffered, but I am now safe and sleeping on a real bed (it’s a queen sized double high air mattress).
It feels good to be out of my car and sleeping in a real house. I’m using my only piece of technology left to watch lots of YouTube and other videos on my iPhone.
Other then that, I’ve been better. Things are looking up and moving forward. With all of that being said, here is the article after the jump: (more…)
@calilewis why are you returning them ? I love mine
