Saddam Hussein is officially dead

Nick Starr | December 31, 2006

[googlevideo]8518016238409913462[/googlevideo]

Above is a video that is reported to be the actual video of his hanging. It is a bit grainy and the camera work sucks, but you can watch the final moments of this dictator’s life.

Also here is video from an Iraqi tv station showing everything but the actual hanging itself.

And a powerful video put to a speech given by Persident George W. Bush:

Merry Christmas

Nick Starr | December 25, 2006

I wanted to say thank you to everyone out there who visits this blog, I really enjoy writing it and look forward to 2007, the year of the handheld gadgets (or so I am told). I wish everyone and their family a Happy Holiday, no matter what you celebrate.

Enjoy today, and have fun fighting the lines tomorrow ;-)

Happy Festivus

Nick Starr | December 23, 2006

Today is Festivus, and anyone who is a fan of Seinfeld knows what I am talking about. The funny part is that there is more to this made up holiday that you might not know.

The Boston Globe has a piece about the holiday of Festivus, the holiday-alternative first mentioned on an episode of Seinfeld in 1997. Show writer Daniel O’Keefe’s family celebrated it in his home when he was a kid, and he still celebrates it today. But he’s not the only one. More and more fans of the show are holding Festivus celebrations every year. O’Keefe wrote a book about it, as did Allen Salkin, and the name has become not just a pop culture craze but a real, solid holiday like any other. OK, maybe not like any other, but it’s something that people are really starting to celebrate. (I can sense morons like Bill O’Reilly and John Gibson cringing - Festivus is just another war on Christmas!) (TV Squad)

McDonalds is outsourcing the drive-thru

Nick Starr | December 21, 2006

mcdonaldsI ran across this amazing story about how a guy in Hawaii going to a McDonalds after hearing rumors around the office that the drive-thru person was an out-sourced employee in California.

Based on the facts, it sounds like the California bit might possibly be made up, and the person could be in some 3rd world country. Isn’t McDonalds one of the lowest paying jobs you can get, and they are outsourcing that? Seriously?

I guess if it was outsourced, they could do it from the comfort of their own home, but somehow I doubt that is taking place. Could you imagine the person taking your order might be some crusty old man in his underwear watching tv? Eww.

Remote mail

Nick Starr | December 13, 2006

Forget checking the PO Box, this does it for you. Similiar to PayTrust’s online bill pay service, your mail is sent to an address they give you, scanned in as a PDF and sent via email to you.

Depending on how much mail you get, this could be quite an effective method of receiving your mail. I wouldn’t have packages sent there though, although they do offer package forwarding at an additional cost.

The plans start at $9.95/month with 35 items scanned in B&W. The more items, the larger the cost. I currently pay $20/month for my PO Box, yet it is quite a ways from where I typically am. With the savings in gas, I still don’t see how this service is anything more then a convenience at a premium

Check out Remote Control Mail.
