Today Mozilla released their latest browser Firefox 3.0 beta 1. After running it for a while, the browser is MUCH faster. No bugs yet, other then the memory leak which has plagued users of FF since the browser first launched. The entire experience is improved. They’ve redesigned it to be cleaner, easier to access, and made things like bookmarks and saving passwords easier. Page zooming is really cool, and they finally have the ability to resume downloads perfected.
To the geeky crowd, the reason for the speed bump in rendering pages is that Firefox now is built from Gecko 1.9, a brand new version of engine for rendering HTML. Gecko 1.9 is primarily coded from Cairo, an open source vector graphics software library that can leverage hardware accelerated rendering.
It isn’t recommended that you download this if you are just a casual user, but from what I’ve seen it is stable enough to use as your main browser…and they are sure to release a few more updates in the coming weeks before it’s final public release.

P.S. It is most likely that your extensions won’t work yet with the new beta. It takes time for the creators of these extensions to update the software….a large reason why there is a beta period. And yes, this beta is available for OS X, or any other platform that Firefox runs on.

Sure, going out and paying $249 to upgrade to Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate tomorrow gets you 3 free months of T-Mobile Hotspot service, but what if you could do it for free?
I don’t want to say too much, but if you ever thought about changing the “general.useragent.extra.firefox” in a browser other then IE to something that may or may not resemble this “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0)” and visit this page to sign up: http://hotspot.t-mobile.com/vista/, it may or may not work for ya.
Not that I would ever recommend you try such a thing

Firefox 2.0 is officially released. Might be a good idea to re-download if you used the link mentioned yesterday.
This is the official launch of a truly great product, the search feature alone is worth the upgrade.

Even though the official release of Firefox 2.0 is scheduled for tomorrow, you can download the full (non-release candidate) edition now.

Firefox included a number of feature upgrades, and sports a sleek new look and feel. I can say that for sure it is MUCH faster on my mac than previous versions of Firefox as well. I might just have to switch from Camino.

I received a comment on another blog about my site not being accessible through IE7, now for some reason it wasn’t able to be installed on my system here, but IE6 is working for me and so is my site on IE6.
Can anyone visit the site with IE6 and/or IE7 and tell me if you get an errors, so that I can try to trouble shoot them. Thank you in advance.
I honestly didn’t know that the site was having errors on IE. Personally I prefer Firefox, but I’m not going to deny anyone to visit the site simply because they are using IE.

I realized I’ve been using Wordpress to blog for quite some time now….well over a year. I found a cool plugin that allows you to see what was blogged about one year ago today. It’s on the sidebar, so check it out next time you are on the site.
Below I posted the items posted on July 12, 2005. Looks like I launched FlickrLicio.us one year ago today.

Okay so I’ve been using Firefox and Safari on my systems for quite a while now. I even tried Camino back in it’s beta days. I never really liked it compared to Safari for the mac.
Recently it turned 1.0.2, and is also a universal binary. I installed it on my new core duo Mac Mini and MacBook, and I really like it.
It loads up just as fast as Safari does, which (in terms of icon bounces) is about half a jump.
Some advantages it has over Safari, is that you can use all the AJAX-y stuff in many websites (including Wordpress), opening links from gmail appear in a new tab (Safari does a new window), and built in web ad blocker.
It doesn’t allow plugins like Firefox, but it manages to keep a mac style. I think it is the best browser for the mac out there. Firefox is okay, but simply doesn’t pack the speed that Camino does.
Download Camino here.
