AT&T is really pushing their Blackberry line, and why not? The Blackberry Curve 8310 with GPS is the best phone I’ve ever used. It was more functional, flexible, and felt better in my hands then any phone I’ve owned…and I’ve owned a lot, including the iPhone. The iPhone is a very close second to the BB Curve. Well let me show you how to get either one for free.

If you want the Blackberry Curve, and you are a new customer to AT&T, you can simply go on Amazon and buy the BB Curve 8310 with GPS, and after rebates, you make out with $50.01 in cash and a free phone. That’s it…simple as that. Cold hard cash and the best cell phone ever made.

If you are wanting to get a free iPhone, the steps are a bit more involved, but not by much. Buy the BBCurve like mentioned above. Then go online to GSM PhoneSource and get an unlock code for $19. Finally, put your newly unlocked BBCurve (make sure to keep it pristine and sell as new), on eBay where they are selling for upwards of $400.

That on top of the $50.01 you made just from buying the Curve from Amazon will net you enough cash to buy an iPhone including tax.

There you go, a free iPhone, and heck you might even have some extra money left over for a nice case for that newly purchased <strike>Jesus phone</strike> iPhone.

Buy via Amazon

P.S. This is the method I went about buying my iPhone, but Amazon wasn’t offering such incredible rebates, so I was able to get the AT&T store to match the Amazon price at the time of paying $50, this this method, you can pocket $50 on the purchase of a Curve.

Apparently the line is “officially” forming outside, but no one is there yet and I’m enjoying Apple’s free WiFi and these cumfy leather chairs from Leather Express in Tampa.

Once I officially move outside, which weather.com is reporting as 88, but feels like 96, I will be only updating from Twitter to conserve on battery power. I am adding the ability for Twitter to post directly to the blog here, so updates on my 30+ hours till the launch will be chronicled for you right on the blog and thru the rss feed.

My direct twitter account is at Twitter.com/NickStarr if you want to be subscribed to my updates there.

As for my plans, lots of reading RSS, listening to Opie and Anthony, and maybe finally reading iCon Steve Jobs.

Being that I’m on the go quite a bit, and finding places to charge my gadgets can often be a bit difficult unless I’m camped out in a local Starbucks for a few hours. I am using an iPod car charger that has a USB port on the end to charge my BlackBerry when I am driving. My laptop often gets drained down to nothing while watching a tv show or movie at night before bed.

Well I decided to finally plunk down the $48 and buy a Multi-Port Inverter. It has 2 usb ports (perfect for my BlackBerry and iPhone, a standard 110-volt AC outlet, and another cigarette outlet. I think this solution will work perfectly for charging all of my gadgets while on the go.

It’s only $40 + $8 shipping…considering my monthly power bill ($0), it’s well worth it.

I placed my order this morning for the new BlackBerry 8800 from T-Mobile. I’m trading my BlackBerry Pearl for a Sidekick 3 from a friend. Now that I placed the order, I saw that the price is $349 ($373 with tax + free shipping) with instant rebate. CRAP! I paid $518 with express shipping and tax. I was planning on getting a 2nd line from T-Mobile anyway for the Sidekick 3.So, I’m going to call them up when I get the 8800 in, and ask to open a 2nd line. I will tell them I would like to also purchase the 8800 at the time, yet they don’t have to send me one since I “already bought one.” In a small company, this wouldn’t be a problem, they would just say keep the other one and that’s it. We aren’t talking about a small company here. Logically I should just keep the phone, yet pay the $349 price. Logistically, because of the serial number and since it is “on a different line on the same account” I doubt that T-Mobile will be able to pull it off. Props to them if they can, but I don’t see it happening.

Also, the press release from RIM says this:

Operating on T-Mobile’s EDGE network, the quad-band BlackBerry 8800 offers T-Mobile’s myFaves(i) experience to easily stay in touch with those who matter most, and incorporates built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) to support location-based applications. BlackBerry Maps is included, which provides on-screen driving directions with the ability to track the route via the GPS, and also makes it easy for customers to generate a map directly from their BlackBerry Address Book.

T-Mobile’s site has no mention of GPS at all. The Pearl from T-Mobile also doesn’t contain GPS, while the Cingular/AT&T version does. Whose fault is the typo? I was looking forward to GPS on the 8800, and didn’t purchase the Cingular/AT&T version (with GPS), because I didn’t want to switch companies yet.

When I get the 8800, I’ll report back on the exchange process, and if it has GPS. Here’s hoping everything works out smoothly.

I’m a big cell phone user, but I don’t make many calls at all. I use cell phones for the features that go beyond making calls. Of course I am planning on getting an iPhone once it launches in June, but I’m sick of my BlackBerry Pearl. Mainly, I hate the SureType keyboard on it. Next Tuesday, T-Mobile is launching the BlackBerry 8800 with GPS and a full QWERTY keyboard. I’m switching to that for sure.

The Sidekick ID, a slimmed down version of the Sidekick 3 comes out Wednesday.A BlackBerry is great for email, but I’ve always preferred to SMS and IM through the Sidekick. With the Sidekick ID coming out next weeks, it seems like a cheap way to get back into the Sidekick world of IM’ing. The Sidekick service by itself runs $30/month. BlackBerry service from T-Mobile also runs $30/month with no voice plan. I’m already paying $60/month for 1,000 minutes and unlimited BlackBerry usage on my Pearl.

I am also testing the Samsung UpStage for Sprint with unlimited usage for 6 months. I can use this phone as my primary “phone call” phone for that time.

Is it worth it to have 2 data phones? I would use the BB 8800 for Google Talk, GPS, and Email, while the Sidekick ID would be for AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and SMS. I just really liked the ease of use on the Sidekick. Thoughts?

For those not expecting to stay up where hockey is a religion and health care is free for three years, you can expect to pay $649.99 for a 2 year agreement or $599.99 with one year contract. The 8800, similar to the Cingular model, includes GPS for easily finding your way around when a Mountie isn’t around to ask directions.Read

As far as I can tell by browsing over the press release, this is not a part of Bono’s Product(Red) campaign to raise money for AIDS in Africa.

The color on this Blackberry is pretty cool, it is a maroon type red, and I certainly like it better then the White Pearl from T-Mobile.

As most of Cingular’s releases, they tend to botch it up a bit, and this phone while pictures and details are available on MarketWire, there is no sign of it anywhere on Cingular/AT&T’s website at all.

For once, like say with an Apple event, it would be nice to see the product on the website the day that it is announced. Is that too much to ask?

Okay, if this keeps up I will have 3 separate cell phones. I REALLY want the iPhone, but I don’t know that I could give up my CrackBerry, and guess who might be throwing their hat into the ring? Well I’ll give you a guess, its one of my favorite companies in the world, and the title of this post might of given it away as well.

The rumored Google phone is code-named Switch, and it’s either a joint partnership with Samsung or their own phone. What makes me think that if they do release a phone that it is going to be amazing, is that they hired the guy (Andy Rubin) who created Danger.

You might not know what Danger is, since the company name isn’t that widely talked about, but I’m sure you know the main device they produce, the Sidekick. Personally, I’ve owned every version of the Sidekick since the first black & white screen stage with the external camera. It was one of the best user experiences I’ve had on a phone device.

Will we be seeing a Google phone? I hope so, but until there is something more concrete, this gets filed under rumors.

I have been a “valued T-Mobile customer since 2002.”

A large credit is given to MyFaves to the growth of 901,000 new subscibers in Q4 2006. Personally, I just canceled my MyFaves last night, as that I don’t use that many minutes monthly. I do, however, use a ton of text messages and Blackberry wireless, so the Blackberry 1000 plan works best for me (including unlimited text messages).

I am however planning, like many, to switch to Cingular in the next few months. I would like to try out the Blackberry 8800, and might even use the iPhone as a secondary phone (since there is no indication that it will run Google Talk a critical feature of a phone for me).
