How to get a free iPhone (or Blackberry Curve)

28 11 2007

bb curve 8310

AT&T is really pushing their Blackberry line, and why not? The Blackberry Curve 8310 with GPS is the best phone I’ve ever used. It was more functional, flexible, and felt better in my hands then any phone I’ve owned…and I’ve owned a lot, including the iPhone. The iPhone is a very close second to the BB Curve. Well let me show you how to get either one for free.

If you want the Blackberry Curve, and you are a new customer to AT&T, you can simply go on Amazon and buy the BB Curve 8310 with GPS, and after rebates, you make out with $50.01 in cash and a free phone. That’s it…simple as that. Cold hard cash and the best cell phone ever made.

If you are wanting to get a free iPhone, the steps are a bit more involved, but not by much. Buy the BBCurve like mentioned above. Then go online to GSM PhoneSource and get an unlock code for $19. Finally, put your newly unlocked BBCurve (make sure to keep it pristine and sell as new), on eBay where they are selling for upwards of $400.

That on top of the $50.01 you made just from buying the Curve from Amazon will net you enough cash to buy an iPhone including tax.

There you go, a free iPhone, and heck you might even have some extra money left over for a nice case for that newly purchased Jesus phone iPhone.

Buy via Amazon

P.S. This is the method I went about buying my iPhone, but Amazon wasn’t offering such incredible rebates, so I was able to get the AT&T store to match the Amazon price at the time of paying $50, this this method, you can pocket $50 on the purchase of a Curve.

Camping out for the iPhone

28 06 2007

Well I’ve already arrived at the Apple store here at International Mall (iMall) in Tampa, Fl. Apparently the line is “officially” forming outside, but no one is there yet and I’m enjoying Apple’s free WiFi and these cumfy leather chairs from Leather Express in Tampa.

Once I officially move outside, which weather.com is reporting as 88, but feels like 96, I will be only updating from Twitter to conserve on battery power. I am adding the ability for Twitter to post directly to the blog here, so updates on my 30+ hours till the launch will be chronicled for you right on the blog and thru the rss feed.

My direct twitter account is at Twitter.com/NickStarr if you want to be subscribed to my updates there.

As for my plans, lots of reading RSS, listening to Opie and Anthony, and maybe finally reading iCon Steve Jobs. So stay tuned as the next 30 hours are sure to be eventful.

Mobile Power

18 06 2007

power inverterBeing that I’m on the go quite a bit, and finding places to charge my gadgets can often be a bit difficult unless I’m camped out in a local Starbucks for a few hours. I am using an iPod car charger that has a USB port on the end to charge my BlackBerry when I am driving. My laptop often gets drained down to nothing while watching a tv show or movie at night before bed.

Well I decided to finally plunk down the $48 and buy a Multi-Port Inverter. It has 2 usb ports (perfect for my BlackBerry and iPhone, a standard 110-volt AC outlet, and another cigarette outlet. I think this solution will work perfectly for charging all of my gadgets while on the go.

It’s only $40 + $8 shipping…considering my monthly power bill ($0), it’s well worth it.

Goodbye SureType, Hello GPS

23 04 2007

I placed my order this morning for the new BlackBerry 8800 from T-Mobile. I’m trading my BlackBerry Pearl for a Sidekick 3 from a friend. Now that I placed the order, I saw that the price is $349 ($373 with tax + free shipping) with instant rebate. CRAP! I paid $518 with express shipping and tax. I was planning on getting a 2nd line from T-Mobile anyway for the Sidekick 3.So, I’m going to call them up when I get the 8800 in, and ask to open a 2nd line. I will tell them I would like to also purchase the 8800 at the time, yet they don’t have to send me one since I “already bought one.” In a small company, this wouldn’t be a problem, they would just say keep the other one and that’s it. We aren’t talking about a small company here. Logically I should just keep the phone, yet pay the $349 price. Logistically, because of the serial number and since it is “on a different line on the same account” I doubt that T-Mobile will be able to pull it off. Props to them if they can, but I don’t see it happening.

Also, the press release from RIM says this:

Operating on T-Mobile’s EDGE network, the quad-band BlackBerry 8800 offers T-Mobile’s myFaves(i) experience to easily stay in touch with those who matter most, and incorporates built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) to support location-based applications. BlackBerry Maps is included, which provides on-screen driving directions with the ability to track the route via the GPS, and also makes it easy for customers to generate a map directly from their BlackBerry Address Book.

T-Mobile’s site has no mention of GPS at all. The Pearl from T-Mobile also doesn’t contain GPS, while the Cingular/AT&T version does. Whose fault is the typo? I was looking forward to GPS on the 8800, and didn’t purchase the Cingular/AT&T version (with GPS), because I didn’t want to switch companies yet.

When I get the 8800, I’ll report back on the exchange process, and if it has GPS. Here’s hoping everything works out smoothly.

Yep that’s right, AT&T is crediting any user who calls in and requests credit for the downtime with a cool $2.50. You can maybe even buy a small tall coffee at Starbucks for that much, wait nope. How about a Big Mac, nope. Well we’re sure you will find some way to spend that $2.50, that is if you want to take the time out of your busy today and wait on hold for $2.50.
