Drew got his iPod photo!!!

I am so glad they finally got their BRAND NEW TOP OF THE LINE iPod!!! It has been my goal to be able to get these two incredible podcasters an iPod worthy of their tallent. I am listening to thier most recent show, where they were talking about the iPod photo.

I am so glad that this community has been able to band together and raise the funds to be able to get them their iPod. In listening to them describe how happy they were, it is an amazing feeling being even a small part in this. If you donated in anyway, please go and download their 3/1/05 show. The way they describe how this is one of the first brand new, top of the line items they have gotten...it is just very touching.

WE DID IT!!!!!!

Drew posted on his blog today that we have officially raise all the funds required to get Drew an iPod photo 60 gig...not only that, but we went far and above the call. The iPod photo 60 with all the works like before can be found at Apple's site under the Sales section for $479 or $449 student price.

After closing the site, Drew emailed me about someone who sent in $90 from a listener who hadn't donated yet. I should of put a FINAL DAY post or something to pull in those last minute donations, but all that matters is that you found the way to get the funds to Drew.

Then he posts this on his blog today:

THAT IS SOOO AWESOME!!!! Thanks to the person who donated that much...that put us WAAAAY over the top. I mailed Drew a money order for the $180 we raised on the site, but with the money he got in the past 2 days he has raised enough to buy it on his own. You guys are the best fans that this couple could ask for.

Drew emailed me today and suggested that he would take the money and go out and pay the difference for an iPod. He had this to say earlier, "interesting new ipod lineup.
the 30gb photo looks very cool."

Looks like he won't be getting the 60 gig iPod photo...but I certainly hope that he gets an iPod photo... The album art alone is worth any extra you would pay...and the difference between the 20 gig iPod regular ($269) and 30 gig iPod photo ($319) is only $50.

I would suggest paying the extra $30 ($349) to get the 40 gig iPod photo thru this link. It is the same thing but with 10 gigs more storage and $100 worth of accessories, aka the old package before Apple dumped the extras. I'm sure this is a limited time offer.

All in all we raised $180 together! We as a community should be proud that we got this much without much to hardly any major publicity.

I certainly hope and know that Drew will enjoy his iPod, no matter the style he gets. Thanks again to everyone who participated.

I will be going to San Francisco this weekend and hanging out with podcast celebs...especially Dawn and Drew...

My hotel is 1/2 a block from the flagship Apple store...

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could raise enough money for me to walk into Apple with Dawn and Drew and buy them an iPod!!!!

Drew Domkus and Dawn Miceli recently got 12,000 hits for their downloadable talk show, making it one of the more popular shows available through iPodder.org. That’s up from 64 hits in the fall.

Three or four times a week, the couple said, 10,000 people download the 30-minute "The Dawn and Drew Show," which would make it one of the more popular shows available through iPodder.org. iPodder, developed by former MTV veejay Adam Curry, is one of a few programs that allows listeners to download free audio files, usually MP3s, directly to an MP3 device, so they're portable. Or you can listen the old-fashioned way by going to the couple's Web site. (Because of the site's risqué content, a warning page appears when viewers go to the site.)

Any topic fits. Miceli, an artist, is prone to conversing about sex, her farmhouse and her lust for Curry. Meanwhile, Domkus, who is in charge of technical support for a Milwaukee business, is agreeable to playing the husband who's not quite up to his wife's erotic appetite.

The talks are unscripted, but they can have a topic. On Monday, Miceli, her dark hair framed by magenta bangs, urged her husband to take their show to a hobo convention. A past show was all about the word indigent. On another, Miceli described an adult movie she was watching.

"It's kind of low brow," she said of the show, then shrugged. "It's just somebody's life."

Miceli remembers the first night they attempted podcasting last September.

"We just sat down and pressed 'record,' " Miceli said. If podcasting were human, it was a newborn then.

The couple met a decade ago. Domkus, a California native, was in a band on tour in Milwaukee. Miceli went to hear the band because a friend promised her a turkey sandwich - a story made for a podcast.

Podcasting pioneers

After 66 shows, Domkus and Miceli are considered podcasting pioneers. In a few months, podcasting has grown exponentially, helped along by new technology and holiday sales of digital players. Now, the number of regular podcasts is more than 800, according to The Associated Press. And the software to retrieve podcasts is growing as quickly as the audience, Domkus said. The radio industry is keeping an eye on the popularity of podcasts, in the same way that newspapers track the impact of Web logs.

Domkus was incredulous when 64 people listened as they started podcasting in the fall. A recent show got 12,000 hits.

As expected, fans aren't the quiet types. When Miceli talked about a brush with a woodchuck, an emergency room doctor in New York expressed concern about her health. When Domkus said he didn't have an iPod, a faithful listener sent along his old one. They received one of the new shuffle iPods in the mail the first day they were available in the stores. A listener in Shorewood claims to have lost 25 pounds listening to "The Dawn and Drew Show" while on his treadmill. The couple touts it as "the Dawn and Drew diet."

The show's often risqué content can make some people queasy about listening - Miceli's mother, for one. Her father has made two appearances, enough to draw his own fan base. Still, "He thinks it's a little dirty," Miceli said.

There seems to be no forbidden subject except podcasting itself; it's the one thing Domkus said they won't discuss. But "public shaming," as Miceli calls it, isn't out of the question. Listeners were asked to send letters to Miceli's sister while she serves time.

"We just talk about our day," Domkus said. "We talk about world domination. Well, Dawn talks about world domination."

Anyone know a good host for a website??

My traffic has been going thru the roof...well compared to what it used to be!!! Right now I have 200 megs and 2 gigs of bandwidth...I need at least 5 gigs if not a ton more for future podcasting ventures.

Any suggestions??

Talk about a blast from the past...

I haven't used that in YEARS...I'm supprised they are still around. I should see if my old account is active...I had some "good" emails between an ex and I....but geez, I was probably 17 at the time.

Watching the Superbowl right now and it is 1:18 left in the first quarter. No score yet...but I did see on Dawn and Drew's latest show, they mentioned BuyDrewAniPod.com. Haven't had a chance to listen to what was said, but if you are coming to the site because of that...this is what we are all about..

Dawn and Drew have THE BEST podcast out there...and yet they are podcasters without iPods...

I bought Dawn an iPod shuffle...and it is perfect for her, but Drew is a "geek" as Dawn would say, and therefore an iPod shuffle isn't enough for him. An iPod photo 60 gig is appropriate for our favorite podcaster. So, I created the site BuyDrewAniPod.com and it is completly donation based. Click on the item to donate towards the fund. Everyone's has their favorite podcasters out there. Since this whole podcasting revolution started a whole few months ago, podcasting celebrities have popped up everywhere. Adam Curry with his Daily Source Code, Dave Slusher with Evil Genius Chronicles, Michael Geoghegan with Reel Reviews, Michael Butler with The Rock and Roll Geek Show, Pete Prodoehl with RasterWeb Audio Jimbob and Esther waaay up in Talkeetna, Alaska.

But, I think that nearly everyone that listens to podcasts, listens to The Dawn and Drew Show! This is one of the most outrageous things I have ever heard, and I can't stop listening. Tens of thousands download their podcast and pray for their next episode. They might not have the frequency of shows that Adam Curry puts out, but their off the wall, crazy, hysterical, and incredible efforts are heard on iPods throughout the world.

Their quest for Global Domination cannot be accomplished yet though.

These two podcasters live on their farm up in Wisconsin. They aren't web millionaires like the Prince of Pod, and didn't create RSS like Dave Winer. They are just two people living their lives and working for everything they have. This is where I decided to enter into their life.

I called up their voicemail line (206) 666-FUCK and left them a message the day the new iPod shuffle came out. I wanted to help them out.

How can we have podcasters without iPods?

Drew and I began to speak back and forth and the next day I bought Dawn an iPod shuffle. She just got it and reviewed it on the show on January 18th.

Now someone has sent them a 1G iPod, but that thing is SOOO outdated. We need latest and greatest for our favorite podcasters.

That is why today, I am launching http://www.BuyDrewAniPod.com. I don’t want to just buy Drew and iPod, I want the podcast community (listeners and podcasters and developers) to come and party together. Let’s raise the funds to:

buy Drew an iPod photo 60 gig!

This is a big task and we need EVERYBODY to join in the effort. There is a donate button on this site where you donate any amount towards this cause.

The amount required is $608.83!

This is using my student discount at the Apple store and including Florida Tax.

If anyone can figure out the scripting to link a paypal account balance to show on a website that would be an incredible help, until then…when someone donates I will change the amount left.

I need the help of everyone out there. I need helps with graphics but mainly all you have to do is donate! Put in a buck, put in ten…whatever you can give will be completely appreciated.

I know that this community can do this. We all saw what happened when Adam Curry put out the call for the gentleman moving to the UK and his dog situation. Let’s team together and do this. That was thousands of dollars…this is barely $600! We can do it.
