LA details...

Well I was going to write about what happened in LA...but this would be
the FOURTH time....because my damn blogging software keeps screwing up
on me.....so I will just paraphrase..

I flew out on Sunday...had a great time including In-N-Out, shopping on
Pasadena Ave, the Dawn and Drew Gathering....later Mann's Chinese
theatre and Hollywood Blvd...

Sunday I flew home early and had a GREAT time on the plane with some
really cool people (including two Rockstar Energy Drink hotties)....I'm
home now and still not caught up on sleep....

That's it....in a nutshell....I'm not writing the damn thing again for
the 4th time sorry....stupid software....oh well...maybe more details
later...until later ....nite
For some reason Flickr.com isn't working with Safari here at the SAFARI
Inn lol...but it's working with Firefox, so let me post some pics I've

Well I made it...I couldn't fall asleep because it was so freaking hot
last night until like midnight. I had to wake up at 4am to catch my 7am
flight to LA.

I love Tampa Intl Airport....very well designed. HA...right now there
are three people other than me on their mac's and 2 of them have
Sidekick II's lol. I guess good minds think alike.

The flight is supposed to be about 4-5 hours. LONG flight for me. Of course I have my Starbucks to get me going.

OH SHIT!!! I got some chocolate, toblerone for Dawn...damn. Oh well. I guess it will be melted in the car on the way back.

It is nice to have free wifi at the airport here, I'm not sure who is
providing it but the SSID is TPA. I am sitting across from the
Starbucks wifi, but I don't have to use it.

Well one hour to go, so I will talk to you all later when I'm in LA!
The main event

First, I would like to apologize if you read this post and it doesn't
have links in it yet. I will be putting the links in once I get
somewhere with wifi. That being said....

WHAT A TIME....omg...It
was AMAZING. As you might of read, I got there early and had something
to eat. The atmosphere was very like a tiki bar. Eventually people got
in the boat in the middle and were singing cover songs. They apparently
didn't know that many, because while we were there they repeated
themselves.

First person to show up is Sam Levin from Inside Mac Radio.
He pulls up to the bar a few seats over from me. I had my iPod shuffle
on as to attract people who were there for the podcast event. He really
didn't say anything to me. Around the scheduled time Drew walks in with
James aka "The Professor" I walk up to them and they are arranging things on
where to sit with the staff. Psycho fan Jeff had showed up a little bit
before that with some friends and secured a section that was very tight
for as many people as we had.

Slowly people began showing up.
Fans and podcasters alike. I am the world's worst person with names so
I apologize if I don't mention you. However, the next big podcaster to
arrive was Michael Geoghegan of Reel Reviews .What a great guy. Very personable and down to earth. He described for us his theatre setup that anyone would be envious of.

Michael Butler, the Rock and Roll Geek,
showed up a bit later. We all started geeking it up by people looking
at Sam and my iPod Photo. A bit embarrassing when someone noticed a
picture of some young celeb. I won't mention the name, but it wasn't a
bad picture, just something I don't even know why I had it. Michael
Butler looked thru my music collection and said, "Not bad at all." Yeah
I'm sure he saw some of the crappy top 40 and alternative music on
there that I enjoy sometimes. Oh well.

Dawn was late to
arrive. She eventually got there in all her pink hair'd glory. She was
a very nice person and talked with everyone there. She was having a
great time just talking with people about all sorts of things. Drew and
all of the other main podcasters were talking shop at a table for a
while.

By this time I'd say maybe 20 or more people were
there. Basically everyone that was going to show up had..besides one
person. Well 3 actually. Adam Curry
of course. He also was joined by his friends he spent time with in
South Beach a month or so ago. What incredible people. This guy was
very excited about podcasting. I had a conversation with him about
where it needs to go, and how we need the content to be easier to
access, and integration of opml, etc. He hinted that a few things were
in the works when I mentioned somethings like integration with existing
aps that we use everyday. I won't get into much details, because all of
this is unofficial, but he said, "Oh don't worry about that. We are
handling that." Podcasting going mainstream would be incredible for the
community. His vision is to increase listenership on all shows as a
whole by 10 times in the next 60 days. VERY ambitious.

So, you
want to know about Adam Curry. TALL! Of course he had his rose tinted
shades, and most recently he has mainly been seen wearing Ugg boots
(hmm me too...wierd lol) So what is there to say. He is everything you
would expect. Charismatic, charming, great hair, a great guy who is
really excited about what is happening in the podosphere, so to speak.
I told him I was the one who did the Mini Source Code, and the one who
bought Dawn her iPod shuffle. She was right there and he said,
"ohhh...so you going to blow him now Dawn?" He was just an all around
funny guy. He seemed to have a great time. There was a bit of a
roundtable talk with Adam, Drew, both Michael's, Sam and then Steve
Gilmore showed up. It was like the podsquad was all together.

Oh
yeah, with Dawn came James "the professor's" wife, moon girl, Rin. I hope I am not
busting any trade secrets wide open. A very nice couple. They were very
nice to speak with.

I know there are tons of people there that I am just blah right now and trying to remember. The couple from SayYum.com (Devin and Kris)
were there. They had only done 12 podcasts and were in the NY Times
article that came out the other day. This couple was also very nice. He
uses the Archos Gmini and loves it. My best friend, Eric has literally
the first Archos they made and it still works for him. Granted the OS
is slower than modern day mp3 players and it has a TINY screen, but he
loves it. The new Gmini is very nice and has things the iPod could only
wish to include.

Adam wasn't able to stay as long as everyone
else, as that he had just flown in from NYC and I couldn't even imagine
what the time was in England. He had to be jet-lagged like a mofo.
Before he did leave I took pictures of all of the podsquad that was
there. I took a picture with everyone's camera so I'm sure you can find
the picture somewhere. I am going to post them as soon as I can.

I
took a lot of pictures of the whole event and of San Francisco. I am
thinking of creating a iPhoto book with all of the pictures. If you
were at the event and have pictures, please send me the full sized ones
at NickStarr@Gmail.com.

Let me touch on Steve Gilmor. An amazing man in all that he has done. Unfortunately, the Gilmor gang
is on a break right now, He is very much a podcasting evangelist. He
almost seemed like he was passing to torch. He was very passionate
about others creating podcasts and picking up where he left off. So,
get-together with your friends and start talking about technology.
Record a skype call. Do what it takes to get it out there. This seemed
to be Steve Gilmor's message.

When Adam left the crowd started
to thin out. Everyone paid their tab and the wait staff was very nice
and appreciated what a great group we were. We were left with the
couple from SayYum.com, James and Rin, Dawn and Drew,
Michael Geoghegan and one other person. Man I apologize, again I am
TERRIBLE with names. We all decided to take a cab down to a local
diner. Dawn and Drew had been there the night before so the wait staff
recognized them. They had some good food, and we all just hung out and
talked about all sorts of items. Drew, Michael and I geeked it out and
talked about different types of blogging software. It was a very
enjoyable end to a very enjoyable weekend.

I had very red eyes
this morning, and I'm not feeling completely well. However, all in all
it was the most amazing weekend I have ever had. Dawn and Drew kept
asking me if I was having a good time and all. I think they didn't want
me to be disappointed for coming out all that way for just a group of
people hanging out. On the contrary, it was an amazing time. I would
trade the time I spent for anything in the world. If you weren't there
and are reading this, what I have typed doesn't even do justice to what
an incredible evening it was. I hope some of the other people post
details that I might of missed out on and conversations they had.
Please trackback to this post so that people can read the other
stories. I wanted to get talk to everyone and get their website and/or
blog, but that never materialized.

So, for now...I'm out.
Sleeping and getting some rest to get better. Looks like chicken soup
is on the menu. Take care....inkernet.

UPDATE: I completly forgot to mention I'm sure a number of people, so if I did please contact me.

Sam Curtis from a number of podcast projects was there. He did the Podcat podcast, SportsPod, and Laguna Guitar School.
I appoligze about forgetting. I unfortunatetly didn't get to speak with
him as much as everyone else. I apoligize for the lack of foresight.
BTW. he was the voice of podcat....It was funny. Steve Gillmor tried to
get him to do the podcat voice and eventually he did for a few seconds.
So funny watching tech great, Gillmor, trying to get a guy to talk in a
higher pitched voice. LOL.
on the bus

Okay so I am sitting on a bus and first thing... There is a guy with fake Ugg's and he is wearing shorts. He looks soooo stupid. His girlfriend or at least the girl standing next to him has real ones at least, and she has done the "stick your jeans into them" that most girls do.

..oOo we just passed a Quizno's. I love that place.

Okay so I was at the in-n-out and had lunch. Free samples at Gheredelli Square. Saw an really good slight of hand magician street performer. Then I did something which hopefully will come out okay once I piece it together. I did a sound seeing tour of from the wharf area to and including pier 39. I think it turned out okay, nothing special, but if your ever in the area you cam walk the steps I did and see what has changed.

Oh its my stop. I am headed to chinatown for a few things. I tell you what my lower back is killing me. I most certainly could use an adjustment, and might schedule one for this week, ASAP.

Walking along stockton, which ironically is the street I will have to walk up later tonight, up to Clifornia and turn somewhere...I have the directions on my sidekick.

Oh Louis Vuittin...I should get the 10 credit card wallet. I wonder where chinatown is. I accidently ran into it yesterday. I'm walking towards union square now.

Well this is turning out to be a walking blog entry lol. I guess I will end it here. Leave me comments if I'm even going the right way to chinatown.

11 am Apple Store

So I decided to go to the fisherman's wharf this morning again, but not before walking around a bit.

Had a breakfast sandwich and donut at a small local store.

I was headed out of the hotel after stopping back in and saw a mob of people at the apple store. I decided to go in and check it out. They were waiting for it to open. There was about 50 or more people.

The apple employees clapped as everyone came in as well. It was a pretty cool site. Upstairs there are 12 iMac G5's with stools and they are instantly taken with people checking their email and surfing websites. There is a small bar of the old iMac's for the children.

I wish I could of gotten a iMac I could check into my hotel for tomorrow.

Well I'm out of here and onto the wharf where I will spend a good part of the day....until then...talk to you later

sitting in the hotel

Well the wifi here at the hotel is awesome, but it costs $9.95/day. It lasts for 24 hours and I was stupid enough to hop on it right when I got here, instead of letting the day pass by and then hop on around nowish.

My feet are KILLING ME..... They hurt so badly...it is agony.

I'm not sure how I can go out anymore, tonight especially.

Funny thing is that isn't even 8pm yet here, and I'm wiped. The flight from Atlanta to here was soooo long. I watched Sideways as the in-flight entertainment and watched Saw on my iBook, and still was bored senseless.

I've been to the Apple store about 3 times now..and will probably go again tomorrow. There are SOOO many shops here, and I've noticed that the tourist seem to be quite friendly. Oh yeah, that hot brunette from Orange County, yeah she threw out the BF word. Uh buh bye.

I can't even remember what I have blogged about and what I have called and told people.

I went to Ghirardelli Square...got some free chocolates and some milk chocolate fudge to bring back to my mom. Shh don't tell her, even though she is probably reading this. I went to the In-N-Out burger and couldn't find a place to sit once I got my double cheeseburger. The burger was REALLY good (they use some special sauce), but the fries were...as Elizabeth would say..."too salty." Plus they were umm yeah just kinda blah, nothing special there.

I might call my vonage line and leave a sound seeing podcast tomorrow to see how that goes. Not sure how long I can record on that line, but the quality seems acceptable.

I haven't had dinner yet tonight, and I'm not sure that I will. The only thing I ate all day was In-N-Out and that was around umm let's say 6 or so Pacific time.

It has been raining here like just enough to get you a bit wet all day. I went to the French Connection store looking for my "FCUK in San Francisco" shirt, and saw they had umbrella's that said "FCUK rain." I thought that was so cool, so I got that as well, and I've gotten a TON of comments about my umbrella.

I've also gotten a ton of comments about my iPod shuffle. People all over have been asking about it. DO THEY NOT SEE THE SIGNS LIKE EVERY 10 FEET??? Okay people here it is, 240 songs....a million different ways. It holds one gig. The sound quality is just as awesome as the regular iPod.

I think that is all the questions I had. Oh yeah. I went into the apple store right after checking into my hotel and was wearing a black long sleeve shirt and my iPod shuffle. I had 15-20 people ask me questions about items in the store. I got so good at saying, "I don't work here." I guess I shouldn't go into an apple store looking like Steve Jobs (black shirt and blue jeans).

I'm not sure that there is too much more to talk about. I KNOW there is... I've so many crazy little adventures today. Oh yeah, Alcatraz tours are booked thru Monday, and I obviously won't be here then. I might take a Bay Cruise tomorrow. It is a one hour boat ride under the Golden Gate (which I couldn't see today b/c of the fog and rain) and around Alcatraz. Sounds like a good time.

I think that is all I'm going to type for now. I am going to take Lappy here to the apple store and get my pictures off my camera. I forgot my usb cord and they have one there. So, I will talk to you all later! Cya!

busy

Man I can't remember being this busy and having this much fun. Right now I am in the In-n-Out burger. They have like 3 things on their menu. Cheeseburger, hamburger, or double cheeseburger.

They better be pretty good if they only offer the same item 3 different ways.

So I have gotten lost in the city a number of times. I wanted to go get my hair done and ended up on the 16th floor of this one building 166 SOMETHING st. Two gay guys were debating about color and highlights. I only asked for color and it was $65...I wasn't too thrilled with that. They had me put on a smock. They suggested color and highlights. So I looked at the price for that and it was $195...I said...where is the bathroom. It was in the hall way and occupied. I walked around the hallway like I was impatient or something...and I had taken off the smock. Once the girl at the front counter wasn't looking...I booked it down the 16 flights of stairs....

More to come

another update

So I haven't updated for a while...mainly because it is raining and I have had my hands full. Boy do I have some stories though.

I am on my way to the wharf now. Standing in some street car. Someone gave me their ticket so the ride was free.

First stop was the Apple store which is about 1/2 block from my hotel.

Oh yeah my hotel. TINY TINY TINY room...like barely room enough for the bed and sink in it. My stuff is obviously just thrown about.

So apple...yeah they advertise up here...A LOT!!! Every street corner. Every street sign. Life is random.....10,000 songs in your pocket. They REALLY go all out. So I head into the mothership...the flagship apple store. Amazing. 2 stories and simply awesome.

I go up to the front counter and ask if they have the Mac Mini....they not only had it..but they ONLY had it the way I wanted. The 1.42 gig with superdrive, bluetooth, wifi, and even 512 ram...I didn't want the extra ram from apple, but oh well....I ended up buying it.

I am talking to some hot brunette on the street car so I will have to get back to you later.

Hotlanta

So I finally found a laptop bag that I like...

It is a Targus and it is a soft neophrome (sp?) oh well

It is nice and small with JUST enough room for my laptop and power cable. PERFECT for my needs. It even fits nicely inside of my old BULKY laptop bag.

I also got a Starbucks Atlanta city mug. I collect these mugs, but I only get them from cities I have visited. I have Tampa, Portland, Seattle, Boston, and now Atlanta. Hopefully there is a San Fran one.

No wifi to be found here at the Atlanta airport which kinda sucks, not even in the Starbucks. We will be taking off in a half hour anyway, so it's all good. I am going to get to watching some dvd's I ripped. I will ttyl!

NEXT STOP SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA!!

I am in the plane headed to Atlanta and then to San Francisco, and I
hear Drew says, "Nick Starr is flying all the way from Florida" for the
get together Sunday night. So awesome.

The excitement is building, if it even possible for me to be even more
excited.

Umm what is going on? Dawn is hearing the door knob is rattling in her
hotel room. I wonder if this is a setup. The person says it is the
police. Lol, THIS HAS TO BE A SETUP! Haha....

This is podcasting at its best!

Crap we are about to land. Oh man...

onboard

Well it seems everytime I get on an airplane I have difficulty with my
ticket. I had to call this Delta direct number and they got everything
straightened out.

One thing I am upset about is I had to of left "Assassin" by Ted Bell
somewhere...because it is gone. NOT exactly the book you want to leave
behind, especially since I was using my Boston plane ticket as a
bookmark. Maybe they will have it in lost and found later.

So, we are off to Atlanta...a short hop from Tampa. Flight time a little
over one hour. No need to whip out my iBook yet. I did rip some movies
onto the hd so I could watch on the long cross country flight.

Of course I got my Starbucks and will upload a pic in a minute. Venti
caramel apple cider, ansd it tastes amazing.

So I am driving to the airport. A bit later start than I wanted. Loks
like I will be long term parking just to make sure I get there on time.
My flight leaves in exactly 1 hour and I'm just barely to the beginning
of the bridge.

I got my iPod cranking "California" from The O.C. Soundtrack. I am sooo
excited.

While mobloging from my cell phone like this it will only appear on my
main site. I will edit it later to appear on wwww.BloggingIn.com or is
that one g? I can't remember lol. Well the link is up top.

I better concentrate on driving.

Meeting up with Dawn and Drew!!!

I will be going to San Francisco this weekend and hanging out with podcast celebs...especially Dawn and Drew...

My hotel is 1/2 a block from the flagship Apple store...

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could raise enough money for me to walk into Apple with Dawn and Drew and buy them an iPod!!!!
Renting a Sony T1

Return policies.

I am wanting to get a Sony T1 for the San Fran trip...I have wanted one
for a while now and they are down to about $379 at Circuit City. I was
thinking I could just buy it for the trip then return it....maybe even
a memory card.....no such luck on the camera from Circuit City...15%
restocking fee.

Digital cameras, camcorders, desktop PCs, notebook
PCs, monitors, printers, scanners and radar detectors must be returned
within 14 days of the sale date and (except where prohibited by law)
are subject to a 15% restocking fee if returned opened or in a box
                other than the factory-sealed box.

So let's check Best Buy:

A 15% restocking fee will be charged on returns or exchanges of any
opened notebook computer, camcorder, digital camera or radar detector,
unless defective, damaged upon delivery, or if the wrong product was
delivered. Exchanges can only be made at a Best Buy store within the
United States.

Okay so how much is the 15% restocking fee?
Chapter11 City: $56.99
Worst Buy: $59.99

OUCH!!! That is a lot of money to rent something....looks like I am either stuck with the camera or without one at all.

Great commentary ala Nate

Sorry Nate, I just had to post this...

This is his reply to me asking about SF this weekend

ok, so you leave home at Sun, 3AM traveling 60 MPH so you can leave TIA
traveling 300 MPH at 4AM. You arrive at 7AM their time since you
spent 6 hours in the air. You get to where you are going by 8AM
there.
let's say you see sites for 9 straight hours no stops.
(given sunday traffic you actually spend 3 of those hours in the
car). get back to SFA at 5PM there, leave on a jetplain at 6PM
travel 6 more hours to get back to TIA at exactly 3AM our time Monday
morning and then home in bed by 4AM to be at work 4 hours later?
What an amazing race, you'd be a real survivor if you could find an
apprentice that could hook you up like that. You are an amazing
big brother living in a real world.
Cali this weekend?

I could go to San Fran, Cali this weekend... and go meet some of the top podcasters out there.

I don't know exactly what is stopping me...(the plane ticket would even be free thru my airline miles)

Dawn and Drew from The Dawn and Drew Show will be there ...along with Adam Curry from The Daily Source Code.

Dawn and Drew are going to be hosting a get-together with some fans and all.

Any comments? Ideas on things to see there?

P.S. If I do go..I'm sure that my Weekend Update would be freaking awesome.
Dunkin' Donuts

OMG...I have NEVER ever seen sooo many Dunkin Donuts in my entire
life...the per capita ratio is incredible in Boston. There would be one
in one block and then another 5 blocks away.

There was nearly as many Dunkin Donuts as their were Starbucks...and I'd venture to say even more DD's.

Oh man that must be a donut eating town or something....geez

Blogging in Boston - Podcast 1

Well I did kinda podcast on the trip....

I think the setup went really well. I called into my Vonage account and
just uploaded the audio files it outputted. The sound quality is pretty
good...

The first podcast is from inside the plane as I am "deplaning" into Detroit airport.
