The point of paying yourself first is that you don't go out on Sunday night if you spent all your fun cash by Saturday. It can suck, but then you learn to stretch the cash on the nights you do go out. Maybe order one fewer drink or just an appetizer at dinner.

First rule is pay yourself (your savings) first. 10% of gross pay right into an untouchable (except for when unemployed) savings account. The rest goes for rent, etc., and what's left over is for fun.

$250 sounds like too much, as far as percentage of cash goes. If you ALWAYS end up withdrawing all of it, maybe you should start smaller.

It should hurt a little, but not too bad. Hell, $50, even $25 per paycheck is better than nothing. You can work your way up.

... And don't buy a Kindle or MB Air with your tax refund! :)
