AT&T First with Windows Mobile 6 upgrades

Nick Starr | April 6, 2007

wm6

AT&T/ Cingular is the first carrier to confirm plans to offer upgrades to current phones, including the Samsung Blackjack, HTC 8525, or Palm Treo 750, to the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS, Windows Mobile 6. There is no time frame set, but expect the upgrade to come within the next few months. Treo 750 customers will get the best end of the deal, as the upgrade will include HSDPA 3G capabilities for faster downloads and improved internet speeds.

Recently Rogers, released the Blackberry 8800 into the Canadian wilds. Expect to pay $499.99 with a 3 year service agreement after rebates. For those not expecting to stay up where hockey is a religion and health care is free for three years, you can expect to pay $649.99 for a 2 year agreement or $599.99 with one year contract. The 8800, similar to the Cingular model, includes GPS for easily finding your way around when a Mountie isn’t around to ask directions.Read

Google Desktop Mac

Nick Starr | April 4, 2007

google desktop mac

In, what the heck were they thinking news, Google has released their desktop search for the Mac today. Now I could of sworn that Spotlight seems to work quite well, and there are already plugins for Spotlight to allow you to search your Gmail, and web history, but Google must of missed that.

I guess I will download it, but the last time I used Google Desktop for the PC to index my Gmail, my account got locked out.

Download it here

Mac Pro: Now with 8 cores

Nick Starr |

8 core

Well as previously rumored in an Apple leak, the Mac Pro now features 8 cores. Still using the Intel Xeon processors, this machine should be amazingly fast. You can now either buy the quad-core system starting at $2200, or go with the 8-core with pricing starting around $3,999. The 8-core system is only available in the 3.0Ghz model.

$15 Free iTunes

Nick Starr | April 2, 2007

itunes card

This comes on the day of the Apple/EMI anti-DRM deal, which is pretty cool. Buy 3 $15 gift cards for iTunes and get a 4th one free. That’s $60 in music for $45. Not a bad deal. Can’t pick this one up in store, but shipping is free and there is no tax (at least in Florida) for gift cards.

Death to DRM

Nick Starr |

itunes drm

Finally DRM is going the way of the DoDo. Today Apple and EMI announced DRM free tracks for a 30 cent premium (full albums are the same cost). The songs will be twice the sound quality, 256kbps. Even music videos will be offered DRM free. Check out my full post about it over at BGR.

Ancestor by Soctt Sigler

Nick Starr |

Just placed my order for the #9 book on Amazon’s Top 100, Ancestor by Scott Sigler. Scott has become the web’s biggest podcast novelist. Starting with Earth Core and progressed into Ancestor. It’s a great listen if you haven’t ever heard a podcast novel. The story line is gripping and he’s quite the story teller.

It is pretty cool to see a podcaster in the top 10, let alone 100 over at Amazon with a book they published based on content that is already out in audio for for free. Congrats to Scott. Now I just have to get him to sign my copy at the next podcast expo.
