UBiQUiO has launched their latest smart phone, 503G, and it squarely aimed at taking down Samsung’s BlackJack. This phone is an unlocked quad band GSM handset and which includes HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, 520 MHz CPU, 2.0 megapixel front-facing conference camera, 2.4″ QVGA touchscreen, and QWERTY keyboard. Windows Mobile 6 will allow for rich HTML emails, Microsoft Office integration, increased security, and all around increased productivity. This phone will work on most cell networks, but there are none in the wing right now that are currently set to offer it directly. T-Mobile is still a ways from launching it’s 3G network which will rely on HSDPA, and at&t already has the BlackJack. Look for this phone to be sold on MobilePlanet or eXpansys around the end of June for $650.

US infantryman Kevin Garrad can now say that buying an iPod was a life changing experience. After rounding a corner an insurgent fired a 7.62mm round fired from an AK-47. The iPod was enough to soften the blow to his body armor, leaving him unharmed. Truly an incredible story, and if Apple wants to capitalize on this, they would give him a new iPod. He was due for an upgrade anyway, the iPod that saved his life was a 20 gig 4th generation HP iPod.

While digital screens on cell phones are getting larger and better quality, there is nothing that beats the real thing. That is what Pei-Hua Huang, a recent grad of North Carolina State University is proposing in this revolutionary concept design for a cell phone. The phone contains a 50mm digital camera surrounded with a see-through frame as the viewfinder. This is just a mock up, but it is certainly something that would improve upon the current cell phone cameras. A slide out camera with see-through viewfinder might make for a smaller model, but we’ll leave the designing up to the professionals.

Apple Inc. announced recently that they will be delaying the launch of the upcoming OS X release, Leopard, from it’s original launch date of June till October. They cite the need to pull resources for the iPhone launch. Apple this past January at MacWorld announced it’s name change from Apple Computers to Apple Inc. to show it’s move towards consumer electronics other then just a computer. It’s great to see Apple putting such a large amount of effort into what is scheduled to be one of the biggest phone launches of all time, but for OS X fans it’s a bit disheartening to see all of those Vista machines with their slick looking new OS. Apple has always been known for it’s attention to detail, and trying to release products without flaws. The iPhone is going to be huge for Apple, can’t wait to get our hands on one.

Seems as if free is the theme of the week. After sweating getting your taxes in on time, Ben & Jerry’s is letting you cool off with a free ice cream cone. If this is like any of their previous free cone days, you can get in line as many times as you want. There is often some charity to exploit the cheapskates getting free ice cream, so make sure to drop a buck in their bucket. It will be deductible on next year’s taxes.
