$1.99 for 802.11n on Macs now live

30 01 2007

Well you can now pay the $1.99 fee to update your Airport card in your MacBook, iMac, or Mac Pro to the new 802.11n standard. Here is the list of macs that have the hardware installed currently:

  • MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo
  • MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo
  • Mac Pro with AirPort Extreme option
  • iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (except the 17-inch, 1.83GHz iMac)

If you are planning on purchasing the new Airport Extreme Base Station in February when it launches, you won’t need to purchase this $1.99 add-on, it comes included for free.

Personally, I’d wait to see if this hits the torrent sites, or I know a few people who have pre-ordered the Base Station. There shouldn’t be much benefit without a 802.11n enabled router, and I don’t know of any near me.

Upgrade here

Update: Looks like there is already a RapidShare of a certain “file” that may or may not be the aforementioned $1.99 download.
