EXCLUSIVE: First pics of Bluetooth Mighty Mouse
26 07 2006No this isn’t the “PROTOTYPE” pictures. It is shots I just took of my new bluetooth Mighty Mouse. There is one crazy thing I’ve noticed about it…there is no visible laser AT ALL!!! The only feedback the device gives you is a green light that shows it contains enough charge.
It does infact work with just one or two batteries…and Apple includes 2 AA batteries.
There are side by side pics of the old mighty mouse and the new bluetooth one. It is a tad bit heavier with two batteries, but simply take one out to adjust the weight quite a bit.
It even worked on a 2″ thick glass surface with not a single problem. This is honestly the best wireless mouse I’ve used. I was also able to get a $7 student discount, which still isn’t reflected on the website.
P.S. You will have to install the included software. The mighty mouse software from your old one just doesn’t cut it. A restart is also included to get all of the additional buttons to function.
Check out the entire Flickr set here. (

I love this new mighty mouse! I’ve been using it all day and it works very well (i like how apple threw in two energizer lithium batteries (but at 70 bucks they better do something nice like that). The laser mouse uses an infrared beam too it seems, as you can not see the light when you move the mouse around. Overall great product
does it work with windows?
“does it work with windows?”
Yep, just hold down the right buttom while you turn it on.
The question about Windows is valid. Apple states their bluetooth keyboard and mice do not work with Bootcamp even though it has drivers for the bluetooth module.
Have you tried the new mouse with Windows in Bootcamp ?
Wow. No Visible Laser. Nice
no right click?
nevermind i didnt see the comment
Apple pentration here in little but i hope to put my hand on the might mouse, it sound pretty good.

Wow, the “best wireless mouse you’ve used” and apparently you’ve never seen a laser mouse with an invisible laser. That says a lot…
BTW, all laser mice have invisible lasers. Logitech, Microsoft, etc. Good mice also have much higher dpi, and extra buttons for Back, Forward, Switch tab, Close, Change font size, etc.
“Good mice also have buttons for [...] Change font size” ??
How many times in the day do you have to change font size? Use the keyboard, jackass.
people keep saysing “laser” is this a laser mouse or is it an optical mouse?
lots of people get confused. as far as i was aware the only real laser mice are made by logitec, the mx1000 and the g7
No this thing is a true laser mouse.
I want to know to,
Does it work (well) with windows?
The Logitech cordless mouse for the mac also doesn’t have a visible laser. And it has two buttons, a scroll wheel, forward and backward buttons and volume buttons. And it doesn’t feel completely unnatural to use like the apple bar of soap!!!
My only question is: Is that switch next to the laser an on/off switch? I was assuming it was, but I thought I’d ask for sure…
Yes you can shut the laser area, just like you can with the Bluetooth Optical Apple mouse.
“Good mice also have [...] extra buttons for Back, Forward, Switch tab, Close, Change font size, etc.”
Hey moron, I have a mouse that also has keys for up, down, left, right and a whole bunch of other things including the letters of the alphabet. It’s called a keyboard.
“Hey moron, I have a mouse that also has keys for up, down, left, right and a whole bunch of other things including the letters of the alphabet. It’s called a keyboard.”
The whole point is that because the buttons are on your mouse, you don’t have to use the keyboard for them. You don’t have to use a mouse at all, you could just use a keyboard to navigate your computer… But you don’t do that, do you? Just because something is possible in multiple ways doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be more efficient options.
The mighty mouse SUCKS. You can’t rest both fingers on the buttons at once as you click, because it relies on a sensor on the surface to determine whether you’ve right-clicked or left-clicked. Very uncomfortable to always keep one finger raised off the mouse. I like apple stuff, but damn, get with the program. Two buttons. The little slit down the center doesn’t bug me, honest!!
“The mighty mouse SUCKS. You can’t rest both fingers on the buttons at once as you click, because it relies on a sensor on the surface [blah blah whatever]”
Have you acutally ever used one? You can rest your whole hand on the mouse, and only lift your left finger when you want a right click. There is none of this one finger floating in the air business you speak of. I for one think that the mighty mouse is a very elegant solution, in typical Apple style. By the way, I have one of these logitech mice that are so heralded every time the mighty mouse comes up, and I find still, that the mighty mouse is just nicer to use on the mac.
That’s not Glass BTW, that’s polycarbonate.
[...] Nick Starr has posted some pictures of the new and old Mighty Mice for comparison. In his hands-on experience he notes that the Wireless Mighty Mouse can be used with one or two AA batteries and that it works on 2-inch thick glass (a feat for optical mice). [...]
I’ve been searching for a bluetooth mouse that has a nice quiet click. I spend nearly all my time in the library and I don’t want to be that jerk that everyone can hear clicking his mouse. I tried the new logitech bluetooth mouse, it was awesome, but was soooo loud. I had to send it back. How’s the click on the new mighty mouse? Loud? Quiet? In between? Thanks.
It is just as quiet as the old Mighty Mouse, and like most Apple products, whipser quiet.
What about battery life? Does the documentation that comes with the mouse mention anything on expected life from 2 AA’s?
Does the mouse work also with an bluetooth usb adapter?
for someone that switching from pc to apple hardware - what wireless keyboard matches this in design?

Thats not true i have both the bluetooth and the wired one here right now and i dont need to even lift my finger to right or left click. Correct me if i am wrong but i read that the sensor is a pressure sensor.
Just a little bit of info my blutooth mouse tracks better on a black mousepad than my wired one… this seem contrary of some of the other reviews i read. and if you use one battery it weighs the same as the other one while not losing any tracking ability… WIERD
lol forgot to turn off the bold… sorry
