I am currently beta testing a new product that is the perfect alternative to a chat room for pod/broadcasters. You can get live feedback from your listeners, ban people, and flag items.

It’s called Talk Trap, and it’s in a private beta right now. I am told it should be out soon for everyone. The color/banner scheme is customizable so your listeners will not feel like they are visiting a 3rd party site.

It’s already being used by terrestrial radio stations, and a few podcasters. It’s the best feedback tool I’ve seen for a live broadcast.
