06 Feb 06 iPod/desktop Speaker Review (Part 1)

Part 1: Fury 2.1 Multimedia System by Soundruid Audio

I got these speakers a while ago, and have been testing them out daily. I use them for my speakers out my TV, from iTunes streamed wirelessly thru my Airport Express, and plugging my iPod directly into.

I first saw them at the Portable Media Expo, where Brother Love’s music was cranked up and the sound quality was amazing. There was a booth with some speakers directly across from ThoughtOut’s booth, and they were crap, because the sound kept distorting.

Well I was asked to review these speakers. It is a 2.1 multimedia speaker system called the Fury 2.1 Multimedia System from Soundruid. They come with 2 Satellite speakers, and 1 subwoofer. I have to say, the subwoofer look pretty cool. I have it out in the open, where as most subwoofers are hidden away. There’s just something cool about its look that I can’t define.

Well, when I got the box, I tried to pick it up. HEAVY! These speakers are handcrafted solid wood. The subwoofer alone weighs over 25 pounds!

I took the speakers out and hooked everything up. It came with everything I needed (speaker cable, power cords, remote control, cords, etc). The hookup was easy, as that it shipped with some high quality speaker wire.

They are available in a wide number of colors. Satin (white, black, or silver metallic), Textured (Nickel, black or white), Hammered (blue, silver or red).

Well the first test of a sound system is does it work. Yep everything was good there. Now let’s crank it up!!!! So I did. It was LOUD! I live in a townhouse complex, but made sure that it was the middle of the afternoon when no one was home to crank it up. Now unlike the speakers across from ThoughtOut at the expo, I cranked these as loud as they could go, and there was no distortion. I was playing lossless audio files for all of the main testing.

Now, you can’t listen to it full blast all the time, so I turned it down to a reasonable level. The music fills the room with its crisp yet warm sound. The subwoofer is thumping, and getting amazing sound for being a 6.5″ woofer.

I then plugged it into my TV, which I should mention it’s inputs. It has a line level RCA, and Mini Stereo Jack. You can have both inputs with audio going at the same time. This is how I was able to setup my RCA thru my TV, and Airport Express thru the Mini Stereo Jack. When I used the Fury’s to play TV shows, the sound was amazing.

These speakers are considered multimedia speakers, but I don’t care, I’m using them as my TV speakers from now on as well. They hands down are better than what I previously had.

I don’t know what more I can say to express how great these speakers are. I will say that between these and my Bose SoundDock (to be reviewed in Part 2), listening to music in my cars stereo is nearly impossible for me anymore (and the stereo in my car isn’t the stock model either). It just doesn’t compare to these two amazing products.

Soundruid Audio is the creator of the speakers, and they also sell loudspeakers, and mini home theatre systems along side the Fury Multimedia system. Every speaker is handcrafted wood, which adds to the full rich sound you hear. The price on these speakers is a bit on the high side, BUT for the quality it is well worth it. I can’t stress enough that sometimes when you buy something expensive, you are paying for the NAME BRAND, but with Soundruid you are paying for the quality.

You can buy all of their products directly thru their online store, and you will pay between $648 to $972 (depending on the finish) for these speakers, HOWEVER ThoughtOut has a special deal where you can buy the Fury 2.1 system from them at a HUGE discount. The cost is $479.99, they are shipped direct.

ThoughtOut makes sure that their products are of high quality, so I can see why they have partnered with Soundruid on this.

It’s the best quality speaker set I’ve ever used. I have to say, if you need a sound system for your iPod, computer, or even want to replace your TV speaker….I recommend these speakers. There is nothing else out there that will give you the quality of these handcrafted solid wood speakers.
