Umm Brasso is VERY abrasive..and it SCRATCHED MY BLACK IPOD NANO TO HELL! This story is NOT accurate! I followed the directions exactly as specified and oh boy.
Yeah it was bad…my iPod nano had about 3 scratches on it…I’m VERY careful with it..I applied brasso and it was ruined. Fortunatetly it was subject to the cracking screen and I got a free replacement at the Apple Store at iMall.
Tech and Apple03 Oct 2005 08:13 am $4 can of Brasso on the nano …DOES NOT WORK! Tags: brasso, iPod, nano, iPod+nano, nano+brasso, can, $4, braso, scratch, screen, cracked
Wow… I can’t believe that
I’m glad you were eligble for the free replacement anyway. Man. WTF
Well, your experience is different than mine. Here’s another guy who had exactly the same good results that I did:

I’m glad you were able to get your issue fixed.
I bought some Brasso this morning and used it on my iPod and it totally worked. i had two big scratches on my screen and after only about 5 minutes of application i got them out. it looks new now.
maybe you did it wrong?
do you think the brasso would work well on a white nano, and how many times can you use it???
Let me say, I tried using some Brasso Paste on my Black iPod Nano and it did not work, although. I used the can and a cotton bud and POOF, as good as new.
jake: My friend used the can of brasso after i’d done with it on his White Nano, yellowed it to hell. Be careful.
Brasso does NOT!!! work I did exactly as the directions said and it didn’t clean the scratches of my ipod at all it just turned my white ipod YELLOW!!! If you have a white nano do not use Brasso.
I read that Tod Dailey sh*t and I just turned my white nano yellowish…so thanks a lot Tod Dailey and your goddam Brasso! Do not use Brasso. It’s a piece of sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!
ARGHHHH.. I want to use brasso on my black nano SOO badly, but now.. RRHHHHH!! does it work or not? what kind of cloth did YOU use, because im guessing thats how you screwed it up. but.. I dont want to take any risks. but.. i want my scratches off!!!! theyre little but really annoying. and Im getting a case for it, so I want to fix it up before then. Anyone else used it on a BLACK nano? Should I go for it??
Heartbroken …
I bought my black nano on October 24th …
and now November 21st, less than a month after, my nano is COVERED with
Tiny
ANNOYING
Scratches!!! I know this won’t seem big .. because every poor nano-fan has got it … those deadly, tiny scratches. And BELIEVE me … I was OBSESSIVE!! I treated it like I was a surgeon and it was my mom I was operating on … honest to god. I never took it out of the plastic case it came with … except to charge and upload. (or download … not sure) but of course … that damn thing is covered. I bought a can of the life-saving, cheap, “Miracle Product.” –>Brasso!!!!
O crap … it seems to have cut me off… damn thing. So bottom line .. please tell me everything!! The good and the bad … happy and not-so-positive. You may be saving many peoples nano’s!!
Hey everyone, bought some brasso the other day — i applied it and…
Kinda/Didn’t work? –> used a small cloth, and removed scratches, and made some i think….can sum1 please give me a tutorial on how to do it, amount, polishing technique, etc.
Thanks alot,
Chris
well…. i have a white ipod nano and i DONT want it yellowwwwwwww!!!
but if you have a black id say go for it it worked (4 the black)more than 86% of the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well that’s what you get for not following the tutorial the right way. You link to the tutorial when in it, it recommends you test it on a corner to see if it works. If you had tested it before you applied it to the entire thing then you would have known prior to ruining your ipod. Genius.
i had my ipod video 30gb since christma’s and it was so scratched that i did’nt even wanted to watch videos on it, so i cheked out on google: “ipod scratches” and i saw this blog that exited me so much. i’m toalking about the one of brasso. so i went almost running to the market and get some, i was following the instructions but instead of 20 minutes i was working on my ipod for 5 minutes ( i wanted to see the results as soon as possible) so i cleaned it and it was the most beautiful time i had with my ipod since i opened it. it was like NEW, so don’t be afraid and use SOME BRASSO
I have hard the white nano BRASSO MELTED the clickwheel and now its so hard to manuever the clickwheel i hate brasso.
Look, maybe the issues people are having are because little to no reasearch was done before attacking a $300 piece of electronics? Brasso should be totally safe, if used correctly. It is important to remember that brasso is a very fine abrasive, almost a colloid, suspended in solution. Translation- its liquid sandpaper. Granted there are also some shine agents in there too. So, if you are going to do this, do NOT press, simply let the weight of your hand do the work. If you were cutting bread, would you press down on the knife? No, because that would ruin the bread. It.s the same thing. That is the reason humans use tools, they save US work. Second, about the yellowing: I’m not totally sure about brasso, but most metal polishing agents have a film that they create after drying. This should come off with a little bit of water and a cotton ball/pad. Anyway, I think that the big difference seen in everybody’s experiences is due to difference in technique, or people with issues arent shaking the living hell out of that can of brasso. The stuff settles; it is the nature of the beast.
Whoops, I forgot something. I have a full sized 5G ipod, and CD scratch remover has worked wonders for me so far. The key to a mirror shine on anything is in the technique. It is important to use varied motions. Clockwise circular, anticlockwise circular, up-down, left-right, varying angles of attack. Mix it up, it takes patience and work. Also, some people have voiced concerns on the interweb that the screen may be polished through. This stuff (polishing solution) is designed not to change the contour of the object being polished, afterall what is the point of having somethign polished and ruined? There is at least a mm of acrylic or whatever they use on the ipod, it would take an eternity to rub through that with a (important disclaimer: final finish) polishing solution.
i lovee brassoooo!
it totally worked for me
keep at it this looney has noo idea
I used Brasso on my white nano and it didnt do anything. didnt turnit yellow or take away the scratches on it!
I have a Black iPod Nano that my parents got for me for X-Mas, I accedentilly found mine and my sisters iPod Nano. I opend the box and WOW the most beautiful WHITE ipod nano ever, i got all excited that i was going to get a WHITE iPod, i figured that a white IPOD u wouldnt be able to see the scratches easily so i took it out and IT HAD MY SIS’ NAME ON IT!!!
I absolutly did not want a black IPOD,,,,but wut the hec its an iPod well i decided i kinda liked it but now I HATE THE PIECE OF SHIT….it scratches like a mofo!!! i reccomend you get A CAN OF BRASSO AND A CASE FOR YOUR IPOD…..YOU WILL NEED IT!
Hey all, I’m not sure why Brasso isn’t working for some of you. I’ve used it for taking scratches out of iPods, CD’s, DVD’s, game disks, plastic lenses, watch crystals, cell phones, and various other projects, including removing imperfections from heatsinks. It’s by far the most useful polish/cleaner in my house. I don’t recommend using paper towels, or any fibrous material like that. Remember, paper towels are basically made of wood chips… who in their right mind would try to polish something important using a handful of wood chips? Use a clean, soft cotton cloth…you can buy them in cheap bulk for car washing, or use an old soft t-shirt. Just be sure it’s soft and clean.
I’m not sure about Brasso paste as I used the liquid form. Brasso will relieve large scratches, but causes smaller, less noticable ones. When using brasso protect your click wheel and headphone and computer outs, as well as your hold button. Do not OVERAPPLY use a few drops. To get rid of smaller scratches I used a CD scratch remover, which worked well. I finished with a mild eyeglass cleaner which polished my ipod greatly. It looks much better, but is not in perfect state. If your ipod has only minor scratches DO NOT USE BRASSO. It only works on major scratches and doesn’t work on the aluminum casing
Don’t use Brasso on the chrome backsof your ipod nano’s, it bloody scratched mine to hell and now I am looking for products to remove the scratches or possibly brush the chrome casing like this person has done (http://members.optusnet.com.au/brushedipod/).
Apple should take notes from this person.
OMFG!!! 3 Effing SCRATCHES! OH GOD!!! WHAT HAS THIS WORLD COME TO?????? Dude. chill. 3 scratches? Wtf? be proud and thankful to your “god” that you have an iPod, there are actually some people out there who don’t and will never have an iPod! =0! I know scary!
Hey.
1. Brasso does not leave yellowish stain on the ipod, but it does stain your cloth.
2. I pressed down too hard when applyiing Brasso, resulting in more scratches. I did it again, be more gentle this time, and problem solved.
3. You would not melt your ipod (not sure for the nano). It would take 5000+ polishes to melt your ipod video, but still, refrain from doing it too often.
4. Brasso STINKS, so get yourself some good smelling cloth, and have plenty if ventilation.
Wow, hey i just used this Brasso stuff on my iPod Video! It worked really well, i took a q-tip and just let it glide around the screen and body. It worked like a charm!
Hey, i have a 2GB black iPod Nano. It has a few scratches from ONLY tking it in and out of the case i had. I recently purchased a couple of silicon skin tight cases, and my order of the clear wraps-the plastic ones, should come in next week. i got them becase the screen is open on my silicon cases is open and unprotected, and i would like to use my iPod without those cases every once in a while. I have some scratches from usage, but the reason i am doing this is bacause, there are some very noticable scratches from my old case around my screen. The case moved a little everytime i closed it, so it wore scratches in it. There are a few on the screen, and i would like them gone, so im gonna try this soon. I’ll repost the results l8er.
great ideas

can this ” brasso” work on a psp screen also
i totally agree with zane!
and to all of you who now have a yellow ipod, try cleaning it off. if that doesn’t work, it’s still probably your fault because you most likely didn’t get rid of the brasso after you were done removing scratches.
yo i got the old school 4th gen 20gb ipod and im gettn reddy to sell it to get a 4gb nano and i got some brasso and used a cotton swab but first i made sure i cleaned my ipod with som windex or else i’d just be mixing brasso and dirt making mess but it worked well for me
hey…..I AM REALLY SCARED!!! i got this ipod nano that is white in july! i love it so much but im very paranoid about all the tiny scratches on it! i have a sorta deep one on my screen and i realli want them to be gone! ive read that brasso works great but then some people have done ti on theres and it has turned yellow! and i dont want that! can someone please help me and tell me what to do! should i use brasso?..or maybe silvo??…
HELP!
hey… I was wanting to get scratches out of my ipod screen and the back of it… and i was told that i would have to polish in straight lines on the ipod or otherwise it would screw the whole thing up… for the people that have fixed up the scratches on their ipod, is this true?
Maybe you shouldn’t use a brillo pad to clean it with?
how funny is it that people are calling other people liars about actual real experiences they’ve had.
Look you’ve already spent a couple hundred on the ipod, why the hell would you think you could fix it for 4? Anyone doing so is satisfied with a more scratched ipod or just naive.
nick game…
I like what I see, but I think you could do more to bring in the “outsiders” with some interesting new content. I bet you’ll deliver. I’ll bookmark for future visits, just the same!…
