Tampa Bay and blogging
27 09 2005From FLABLOG:
For reasons that are beyond me, Tampa Bay is the blogging capital of the Sunshine State. Not more populous Miami-Dade, not the studentville of Gainesville, not that center of political wonkery, Tallahassee, and not Orlando where there’s nothing better to do.
Cool…I’m a Tampa Bay blogger. I picked up a copy of the local TBT (Tampa Bay Times) today at Panera during lunch as that the cover story was about blogging in Tampa. Here is the story.
They outline a few Tampa area bloggers. Okay cool….but wait I’m not mentioned. Strange. Let me look at the stats.
With all of my blogs I have over 500,000 UNIQUE VISITS PER DAY!
I serve out over 15 gigs of bandwidth a day (and I don’t even podcast).
Instantly when I launch a new service I have over 50,000 people visit the new site within the first 6 hours.
So why am I not one of Tampa Bay’s best-read bloggers? What about the Nobody Likes Onions guys? What about Digital Flotsam with PW Fenton? Sure they are podcasters, but doesn’t that also make them bloggers?
The strange part is that I know one of the writers for the paper, he did an article about my roomie and myself and our gadget bag.
Okay enough with the ranting…I did find something cool on Tommy Duncan’s Sticks of Fire blog. It is a blog that incorporates ALL of the Tampa blogs into one. It is called TampaBLAB (Tampa Bay Local Area Bloggers). I submitted my feed to be added. Let’s hope that I get picked up in the syndication!
P.S. The story did lead me to a great blog called Sarah In Tampa where this very attractive woman blogs about tech. How hot is that, a hottie talking tech on a blog.

We do over 105 GB of downloads per day. Guess we aren’t big enough. =)
My personal blog used to be pretty popular too but the podcast has taken over my life.

Decided to check out a few things this morning - hit the St. Petersburg Times Blogs page, and what do I see? [IMG] The BLAB’s got BUZZ, baby! Notice, TampaBLAB is still listed as a new blog! Along with some nice writeups BLAB has received over the past week, I’ve decided to set a goal: 120 TampaBLAB blogs by the end of the year. Lofty? Maybe. But there’s some mojo workin’ now, and I intend to use it.
I didn’t expect that the newspapers would pick me up. Their only concern so far has been to portray me and the city(Zephyrhills) I live in as racist.Newspapers have been wildly flailing about in uninformed and prepredjudiced ways on the net, trying to stem the blood flow from the great wound, the freedom of expression, that is the internet.Since the beginning of our nation they have controlled political direction, common belief and understanding.Oh,a myriad of societaly important arteries. There are many ways to distort truth. It would seem that the prime purpose of journalism classes,is to learn the many techniques involved.Pontification, allowing only the uninformed, the buffoons, the ridiculous to be published, as opposition to the pontification, are some used localy Delbert W.
